The Adama City Administration’s Labor and Social Affairs Office has recognized the Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) with a Certificate of Recognition and a Medal for its contribution to improving the lives of persons with disabilities across the city.

The recognition was presented during a ceremony held at the Adama City Administration Irreecha Training Hall, attended by representatives of the Oromia National Regional State Labor and Social Affairs Bureau, Adama City Administration, the Civil Service Office, sub-city Labor and Social Affairs offices, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), and Abba Gadas.

“This recognition reflects what can be achieved through strong partnership among government, persons with disabilities, their organizations, and development partners. We are proud of the progress made in Adama and remain committed to expanding opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate, lead, and improve their livelihoods.”
— Legassu Leulseged, Program Director, ECDD

ECDD has implemented several initiatives in partnership with the Adama City Administration, including the Tila livelihood project from 2021 to 2025, and the ADVANCE disability rights and advocacy project from 2022 to 2025.

Building on these efforts, ECDD is currently implementing the I-BPO: Upskilling and Employing Persons with Disabilities through an Inclusive BPO Ecosystem in Ethiopia project from March to December 2026, in collaboration with the City Administration’s Labor and Social Affairs, Finance, and Job Creation offices.

Together, these initiatives have contributed to improved livelihoods for youth with disabilities, strengthened the advocacy and leadership capacity of OPDs, and promoted disability inclusion across different sectors of the city administration.

The recognition highlights the value of sustained collaboration among ECDD, the Adama City Administration, OPDs, and other stakeholders in advancing meaningful and sustainable inclusion for persons with disabilities.
