ECDD Child-led disability rights advocates have called for continued government action towards Ethiopia’s ratification of the African Disability Protocol, emphasizing the importance of strengthening legal protections for children with disabilities.
Speaking during an advocacy session organized by the Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD), Child Wyenshet Molla, representing the Addis Ababa Child-Led Disability Rights Group under the CSSPCR project, highlighted the importance of the Protocol and urged the government to advance ratification on behalf of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and largely African children with disabilities.

The session examined the relevance of Article 16 of the ADP, which focuses on the rights of children with disabilities, including protection from harmful practices, access to inclusive services, and safeguards against discrimination and exclusion.
Participants discussed the need for stronger legal and institutional frameworks to address the challenges faced by children with disabilities, including barriers to education, healthcare, early intervention, and protection.
The advocacy session formed part of ECDD’s broader efforts to strengthen civil society engagement and promote meaningful participation in disability rights governance.
The discussion reaffirmed the importance of ensuring that children with disabilities are recognized as rights-holders and active participants in decisions affecting their lives.
