Emebet with her sewing machine at her retail shop

Emebet Asaye, a 30-year-old woman with a physical disability in Bahir Dar, exemplifies resilience and determination. After earning her BSc in Animal Science from Debre Tabor University in 2016, she faced significant barriers in securing employment due to her disability and the limited job market.

Her turning point came when she became a beneficiary of the Tila Project, implemented by ECDD with funding from the Mastercard Foundation through MoLS. Through the project, Emebet received three months of hard skills and personal development training—an opportunity that opened new doors for her future.

With the project’s support, she accessed a 65,000 ETB loan at a fair interest rate. This financial boost enabled her to launch a retail clothing shop where she sells and tailors modern apparel, including pajamas for men and women. Her business has grown steadily, making her a respected entrepreneur in her community.

Despite regional instability and ongoing challenges, Emebet repaid her loan on time—demonstrating not only her integrity but also her financial discipline and strong business acumen. Her journey is a powerful testament to how inclusive, targeted support can foster economic independence and self-reliance.

Today, Emebet is more than a shop owner—she is a role model and a symbol of what is possible when ability is recognized over disability.

Emebet’s success story serves as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the transformative power of determination, resilience, and responsible financial management. As she continues on her journey of personal and professional growth, Emebet’s success serves as an inspiration of hope and possibility, inspiring others to pursue their dreams with unwavering determination and steadfast commitment to excellence.ECDD wishes her All the BEST!
