ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia is taking significant strides toward a more inclusive future for persons with disabilities. The Ethiopian Centre for Disability and Development (ECDD), working closely with the Ministry of Labour and Skills (MoLS) and other vital partners, has successfully completed a thorough review of key guidelines designed to include individuals with disabilities into technical and vocational training (TVT) programs.

This crucial initiative saw the “Guideline for Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities of Skills Development in TVTs” and the “Employment of Persons with Disabilities and TVT Strategy” thoroughly and carefully updated. The goal? To ensure that skills development programs and employment opportunities are truly accessible and inclusive for everyone.

Here’s a closer look at what makes this achievement so impactful:

  • Collaborative Power: The review was a joint effort, bringing together the ECDD, MoLS, various government stakeholders, and cooperative partner organizations.
  • Dedicated Task Force: A 25-member Task Force convened for a series of intensive meetings at the Kilole International Hotel in Bishoftu, since December 2024, to refine these vital documents.
  • International Support: This extensive undertaking was made possible through the generous financial support of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).
  • Project I-LEAD: AICS’s support comes specifically through the “Promoting Job Employment through Accessible Education and Digitalization” (I-LEAD) project, highlighting a shared commitment to equitable access to skills training and meaningful employment.

This collaborative success represents a pivotal moment, poised to significantly enhance the employability and economic participation of persons with disabilities throughout Ethiopia.
