Mr. Legassu Leulseged ECDD Program Director is presenting to participants about the key thematic areas that the Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) is implementing to promote disability inclusion throughout the country.

The second-round Workshop, aimed at reviewing the system Documents to enhance a more inclusive of persons with disabilities has been opened on December 26, 2024, by Mr. Azmeraw Kebede, State Minister Adviser of the Ministry of Labour and Skills (MoLS), in Bishoftu City. A dedicated 25 Task Force members brought together from different stakeholders have convened for a three-day intensive workshop (December 26-28, 2024) to thoroughly review and refine national documents related to disability-inclusive skills training and employment for persons with disabilities. This initiative is a powerful collaboration between the Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) and the Ministry of Labour and Skills (MoLS), supported by the financial support of AICS.

The workshop’s agenda focuses on ensuring these core documents champion the principles of disability inclusion within:

  • The National TVET Strategy Guarantee equitable access and opportunity for persons with disabilities within the technical and vocational education and training landscape.

  • The Guideline for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in TVET (2019): This existing guideline will be re-evaluated to identify areas for strengthening and enhanced implementation.
  • The Directive for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Job Creation and Implementation (2022): A critical examination to maximize its impact on creating meaningful employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
  • The TVET Proclamation: Reviewing the foundational legal framework to ensure the supports disability inclusion across the TVET sector.
