In Ethiopia children with disabilities face many barriers and challenges to accessing quality education. The benefits of inclusive education now are widely recognized, but despite efforts for change, much progress remains to be made. The Ethiopian Government recognizes the significant role of education in reducing poverty and sustaining economic growth. It is committed to accomplishing the Education For All (EFA) goals and UN SDGs. The Ministry of Education’s Master Plan for Special Needs Education/Inclusive Education in Ethiopia (2016-2025) outlines a plan to move away from special schools and develop an inclusive education system in which children with disabilities can live in their home communities and attend neighborhood
schools.
